Firethorne: Hometown Charm Where the Milkman Still Delivers Milk to Your Door

Remember when the milkman delivered milk to your very door? At Firethorne, West Houston’s newest master-designed community, he still does! In fact, the community has arranged for a local milkman to deliver a free gallon of organic milk to each resident's door every week for the first six months the family lives there.

"It's our way of being neighborly and introducing our residents to Firethorne's hometown charm," said Firethorne General Manager Wayne Meyer. He noted that upon move-in, new residents also receive a fresh-from-the-oven homemade pie from the legendary John & Ann's Pie Shoppe of Katy.

According to Meyer, after a Firethorne homeowner moves in, all they have to do is give the milkman a call. The milkman will answer any questions about the milk and other products he has to offer (fresh dairy products, fresh meats and produce) and can explain how and when delivery is made.

Firethorne is a 1,400-acre residential development designed to carefully combine the vibrancy of West Houston with the small-town charm of Katy/Fulshear. Strategically located on FM 1463 near the crossroads of the 1-10 West corridor, the Westpark Tollway and the Grand Parkway, Firethorne will provide convenient access to the region's foremost mobility plan for exploring Houston.

Currently there are more than 25 homes under construction at Firethorne, with model homes scheduled for completion by year-end. Some of the Houston area's most respected builders -- Coventry Homes, David Powers, David Weekley, Perry Homes and Plantation Homes – comprise the Firethorne builder team. They were selected based upon the highest standards for design, quality, customer satisfaction and reputation. Visit the Builders page for links to their websites.

Firethorne, named for a resilient evergreen indigenous to the Texas prairie, blends with the best nature has to offer: a sparkling blue scenic lake, 150 acres devoted to parks and recreational amenities highlighted by the 12-acre lake with surrounding greenbelt, hike and bike trails, parks and playgrounds, discovery-rich wildlife observation area, a natural bird habitat and more. Family amenities will include a resort-style multi-level family swim center, sports fields, tennis courts, a competitive swim center, plus a neighborhood Community Center with a meeting room and fully equipped fitness facility.

With opportunities for nature discovery all around, plus being located in the acclaimed Katy Independent School District (KISD), Firethorne is rooted in the spirit of learning. KISD, one of only 14 large districts in Texas to earn the "Recognized" distinction, offers unparalleled academic and extra-curricular programs. University of Houston System at Cinco Ranch and the new Cinco Ranch Branch Library are just minutes away.

WoodCreek Reserve and Estates Katy, Texas Homes For Sale

WoodCreek Reserve and Estates Katy, Texas Homes For Sale

WoodCreek Reserve and Estates of WoodCreek is a 500-acre master-planned community in the city of Katy, Texas. The neighborhood has quickly become one of the most sought-after addresses in the West Houston area and includes an outstanding residential amenity package, exceptional Katy ISD schools and a convenient location.

NEW BUILDERS AND NEW SECTIONS NOW OPEN!
Announcing The Estates of WoodCreek
New Custom Homes on Half Acre Homesites; priced from $425,000 to $1 million.

Long before the idea of WoodCreek Reserve had ever been envisioned, nature was at work. The land, the bayou, and majestic oak trees were following the architecture of nature, creating what is now a pristine 100-acre nature reserve. Nestled in this heavily wooded nature reserve, WoodCreek Reserve is Katy's new master-planned community. WoodCreek Reserve is an artful orchestration of the beauty that nature created and an unprecedented residential amenity package. Crafted in a truly unique manner, every home site in WoodCreek Reserve is larger than average to give residents more space to call their own. Extensive care and thoughtful planning have gone into making WoodCreek Reserve an exquisite place to live. Past generations carefully preserved its beauty for your family and generations to come.

WOODCREEK RESERVE HAS BEEN SELECTED AS THE 2007 KATY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE BUSINESS OF THE YEAR!

More than one-third of WoodCreek Reserve is dedicated to a nature reserve, where families can enjoy a wide variety of recreation and the sheer beauty of WoodCreek Reserve.

Living in WoodCreek Reserve means living in the City of Katy, where children attend the very best Katy schools. Katy residents take education seriously and the community and school district work hand-in-hand to provide the best educational opportunities for all KISD children. As a result, several KISD schools have won the National Recognition Award for Elementary Education, Exemplary Performance Awards, and 11 schools were selected as Texas Successful Schools by the Texas Education Agency.

The community includes on-site WoodCreek Reserve Elementary, which opened this August and WoodCreek Reserve Junior High School, which is now under construction and is scheduled to open in 2008. Having exceptional schools within walking distance of home makes living in WoodCreek Reserve a smart choice.

In WoodCreek Reserve, you have Katy police protection, fire protection, zoned ordinances, and your own local government. This means you have a say in your local government and there is no threat of being annexed by the City of Houston. Most other communities in the Katy area are not actually in the city of Katy and are in the Houston ETJ.

More than one-third of the development is dedicated to a nature reserve, which is planned to include:

Recreation center with pool, cabanas, and playground
Sports fields
Stocked lake
Picnic areas surrounded by old oaks
Tennis court
Greenbelt system connecting homesite and 100-acre park
Over one mile of wooded nature trails that weave along Buffalo Bayou
Three neighborhood parks

High speed internet access is provided by Consolidated Communications to homes in WoodCreek Reserve. Source: woodcreekreserve.com

Barker's Landing, Houston Texas

Barker's Landing, Houston Texas. Homes For In Barker's Landing Houston TX

Barker‘s Landing, Houston, presently has 363 homes, Barker Court has 40 homes and Barker‘s Place has 24 homes. All Barker‘s Landing communities‘ maintenance assessments are payable annually by January 31st. These fees are used for 24-hour security patrol, utilities, administrative services and for maintenance of the common areas, swimming pool, tennis courts and irrigation system. Barker Court and Barker‘s Place are separate subdivisions with individual homeowner‘s associations and maintenance fees and share, on a pro-rata basis with BLHOA, the applicable expenses for common areas, security patrol, etc.

The initial development of Barker‘s Landing began in 1972 on 120 acres of land which was formerly a gardening nursery. Plans were for a gated, single entry, private golf course community called La Cour Du Roi (The King‘s Yard). Only a few homes were built before financial difficulties were encountered and, in 1975/76, ownership of the property changed and a new name of BARKER‘S LANDING was given with plans of a single entry, gated community of townhomes and patio homes. Evidently, sometime around this change the lion figurines, which had previously guarded the entrance, were retired.

Barker‘s Landing is comprised of three subdivisions—Barker‘s Landing, Barker Court and Barker‘s Place. Initial construction of these three began in 1977. Each has its own homeowners association and Board of Directors.

Planned Community Management Inc. (PCMI) handles the administrative functions for all three homeowners associations and is located at 15995 N. Barker‘s Landing Road; Ste. 162. PCMI also performs a monthly inspection of the community to determine if there are violations of the Deeds of Restrictions. Mr. Robert Eaton is the PCMI contact for all three homeowners groups. He can be reached through the PCMI general number at 281-870-0585.

Barker‘s Landing Community Club (BLCC)

BLCC is a social club for all Barker‘s Landing residents. You are automatically a member of BLCC; however, a voluntary annual membership fee of $10.00 per family is gratefully received and these fees are put to the benefit of all living here. These proceeds are used to help beautify the common areas of our subdivision with flowers, shrubs, etc. BLCC holds coffees in the homes of residents and sponsor social events throughout the year. A semi-monthly BLCC Bulletin is published which gives neighborhood news and the meeting schedule on its back page. Encouragement to attend the meetings extends to not only the "lady of the house," but also to the "gentlemen." This forum is a wonderfully fun way to enjoy interesting programs, fabulous food and good conviviality in which to meet your neighbors. The meetings are approximately 2 hours in duration.

BLCC compiles a printed Telephone Directory each year through the volunteer efforts of BLCC members. The Directory is delivered to each resident‘s home by BLCC Block Captains. This small Directory contains a wealth of information on committees, who volunteers their services, By-Laws of BLCC, Pool and Tennis Rules and Regulations and a map showing the composition of our three subdivisions.

Every home built in Grayson Lakes features “structured wiring," which gives you the option to connect to the Internet from any room in your house, network your computers from room to room, and receive cable and/or satellite signals in any room. Other optional equipment and subscriptions can allow you to control any number of electronics and appliances using a special remote control, a telephone or the Internet.

With over 30 acres of usable lakes, water is the theme of west Houston’s Grayson Lakes, located in the Katy Independent School District. Grayson Lakes offers new homes priced from the $170,000s to over $700,000 by homebuilders including David Powers, David Weekley, First Texas, Meritage and Partners in Building.

Grayson Lakes has three lakes with fountains and dramatic night lighting. The largest lake, Lake Grayson, meanders throughout the community, offering opportunities for residents to enjoy fishing, canoeing, kayaking and other non-motorized activities.

Many homesites in Grayson Lakes offer direct water frontage, and property lines on waterfront homesites extend all the way to the lake, allowing homeowners to build boat docks and decks right on the shore. Grayson Lakes also has a community dock where homeowners who don’t live directly on the water can launch their watercraft.

Water-based recreation was a major attraction for Grayson Lakes residents, including the Villareal family.

"On a typical weekend, the entire family will spend some quality time paddleboating and fishing," said Steve Villarreal, a father of three. “When we first discovered Grayson Lakes, it was like someone had listened to our discussions about what we wanted in a new community. We don't have to leave home to find activities we can enjoy as a family.”

Grayson Lakes amenities also include greenbelt trails, a tennis center, landscaped reserves, a waterfront recreation center with a swimming pool, and a lakefront park with a community dock. Grayson Lakes also has a community Intranet to help residents stay informed about neighborhood news and activities.

The neighborly scale of Grayson Lakes’ 325-acre master plan appeals to residents such as Susan Jordan.

“Grayson Lakes is not too large and not too small, and most of the neighbors know each other,” she said. “We also liked the large homesites, which go up to ¾ of an acre.”

Local telephone was not available in the Katy area back then, so the local farmers invested as a group and had their own telephone service installed. The Public Utility Commission of Texas was established and those fence posts became the dividing line between telephone companies. Today any competitive telephone company can offer service in any telephone companies service area location, it's up to that company where they offer service. Source. Katy Chamber
